Dr. Amit Gupta is currently working as Additional Professor of Surgery at the JPN Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi. After graduating from Kanpur University in 1993, he obtained his Masters in Surgery from Lucknow University in 1997 and joined AIIMS in 1998. His research Interests are Trauma and Injury Epidemiology, Trauma Systems & Trauma Quality Improvement and Trauma Critical Care
Dr Gupta has been involved with various teaching and training programs in Trauma Care all over the country.
His numerous fellowships include the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center – USAID fellowship for Hospital Disaster Planning, Israeli MASHAV, Fellowship for Trauma and Mass Casualty Management and various other Travel fellowships from DST & DBT Govt. of India.
Dr Gupta hold various external advisory roles including:
Member, Regional Technical Advisory Group-on Road Safety WHO (SEARO)
Member, Technical Committee, India Road Congress
Member Core Committee: National Disaster Management Guidelines. National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India.
Member Core Group: National guidelines for Pre-hospital trauma care and management of trauma victims. WHO and Min. of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. 2011
Founder Secretary of the Indian Society for Trauma and Acute Care (ISTAC)
Faculty on many national and International Courses like ATLS (American College of Surgeons), NTMC (IATSIC), FCCS (SCCM), RTTDC (ACS – COT), PHTLS (NAMET), BLS/ACLS (AHA) etc.
Dr Gupta is the recipient of the prestigious ICMR – International Fellowship for Young biomedical scientists in 2008.
He has over 65 publications in Peer reviewed journals, chapters in textbooks and abstracts in world journals.
He has delivered over 100 Guest Lectures in National and International forums.
Since joining AIIMS, Dr Gupta has held various roles in the Emergency Department, Department of Surgical Disciplines and Apex Trauma Center.
He has been a part of two WHO funded Injury surveillance projects and over more than 10 research projects funded by various agencies in India.
He has been functional in fostering numerous international collaborations in the field of Trauma Care with countries like USA, Israel, Australia and other WHO-SEARO/WPR countries.
As a Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Gupta is the lead for the Indian side, working under Professor Misra at JPN Apex Trauma Center. Dr Gupta is responsible for coordinating all research activities and interventions for all of the Indian study sites.
